Our
Story
OKBNU, Inc (okay being you) is a non-profit organization that is committed to amplifying the voices of young people through leadership, community activism, and healthy relationships. We acknowledge the role of global awareness in dismantling inequality and inequity. Our programs are developed to nurture leaders who are prepared to take action to ensure that people across the world have the access and opportunity to dwell within spaces reflective of the quality of life that they deserve. We want to do more than provide young people, families, and communities with an experience; we want to empower young people to disrupt in ways that changes the world!
How We Serve
OKBNU, Inc.’s mission is to collaborate with young people in developing more equitable solutions that combat injustices across families, communities, and the world. Our programs center young people as innovative, critical thinkers who are valued as agents of change. Through the development of self and social-awareness, we support young people in being OKBNU (Ok being you).
Outcomes of Our Programs:
- The wholistic development of young people and the sustainment of community connections
- Partnerships with local businesses, universities (pre-service teachers), and grassroot organizations
- Opportunities to investigate in authentic, real-world projects that impact the lives of young people, communities, and the world
- Emphasis on reading, writing, creativity, and critical thinking
- Emphasis on social-emotional learning among youth and emotional intelligence among adults
- Young people who are seen and valued as contributors and decision-makers within their communities
- Co-constructed projects developed with young people that run parallel to their interest and future aspirations
- Disrupters who are empowered to dismantle inequality and inequities
- Future opportunities to participate in internship/service-learning opportunities
